Abstract
In recent years, the number of people suffering from depression due to hair loss has been increasing. The treatment methods such as clinical pathology and vanity surgery have been developed. There are therapies and materials for hair growth promotion and hair loss prevention. But the effectiveness of such therapies and materials is not fully evaluated and some side-effects have been reported. In this study, microneedle therapy using very thin and delicate needles promotes absorption of drug. During this therapy, the microneedle makes micro holes that help absorbion of drugs into the scalp. In this study, absorbion of fermented soybean were evaluated. The ingredient has anti- oxidant, anti-androgen, and anti-thrombosis effect for alopecia. The fermented soybean is more effective for complex hair loss when used with microneedle. It is because of the microneedle’s excellent drug delivery system (DDS). This therapy that increases the absorption of fermented soybean is a very useful scalp care method which prevents, treats and controls alopecia. This microneedle therapy using fermented soybean is an advanced technology for scalp care.

Abstract
Until now, evaluating the efficacy of brightening mainly depends on total reflective light measurement. For example, SHV (Saturation, Hue, Value), L* a* b* (CIELAB color space system) color space system was used and lightness and saturation changes were chosen as major parameters for evaluating brightening effect. However, those parameters were calculated from total reflective light on the skin and it is hard to evaluate perceptive efficacy such as luminescence, and glossy. In this research, we applied new method for estimating change of luminescence of skin by using 'Lumiscan' which uses polarized light for detecting surface and inside reflective light independently. We also tested 15 different parameters for finding correlations between luminescence and those parameters. As a results, our 2 different brightening products showed 5 ~ 9 % increase of luminescence at 4 and 8 weeks. And we also found that skin roughness (-28 %), melanin index (-17 %), redness (-7 %), hydration (15 %), and lightness (6 %) were related to luminescence of skin.

Abstract
We measured and compared the partition coefficients and absorption levels of preservative phenoxyethanol (PE), antimicrobial ethylhexylglycerin (EG) and UV-filters widely used in cosmetic products and more specifically evaluated the relative absorption level of PE depending on various packaging materials. The resulting partition coefficients of 11 UV filters in relation to PE and EG displayed EG with a relatively higher partition coefficients. The partition coefficients of Tinsorb M and Solaveil CT434 were also high. Among the UV-filter ingredients with EG absorption levels exceeding 40 % were Gransil PSQ, UV Titan M 160 and Micro TiO2 MT 100 TV, whereas Gransil PSQ and Scadder showed PE absorption levels above 40 %. In addition, we confirmed that PE had displayed an absorption level of 7 ~ 8 % as a result of 1 month-long exposure to packaging material polyoxymethylene. This extensive research illustrates the possibility of producing the most potent preservative contents based on studying the relative compatibility between UV-filters and preservatives and selecting the adequate preservatives to be used. Furthermore, preservative level can also decline with passage of time depending on the type of packaging material used.

Abstract
In this study, we varied emulsifiers and oils for obtaining nano-emulsions with low viscosity using solubilization method. We obtained the stable nano-emulsions with 100 nm droplet size composed with hexyl laurate, ceteareth- 20, PEG-40 hydrogenated caster oil, glyceryl stearate, and stearic acid. This nano-emulsion was stable against time. The stability of nano-emulsions was measured through the change of particle size. The cooling process was an important factor for obtaining stable emulsions by solubilization method. Stability of nano-emulions was maximum only when cooled rapidly.

Abstract
Ultraviolet radiation (UV) is a major cause of photodamages to human skin and the immediate responses of the skin to UV include the erythema and edema. In an attempt to find effective UV-protecting agents to be used in cosmetics, a number of plant extracts were screened in the cell-based assays. Among the total of 38 plant extracts tested, 3 plant extracts derived from Sasa quelpaertensis, Althaea rosea, and Dryopteris crassirhizoma attenuated the UVB-induced cytotoxicity as well as melanin synthesis in cultured human epidermal melanocytes. The anti-inflammatory effects of these plant extracts were further examined in animal models. A control or test cream containing 1% of a plant extract was topically applied to ears of a C57BL/6 mouse or the dorsal skin of a SKH-1 hairless mouse before and after the exposure to UVB. The change in ear thickness or dorsal skin redness due to UVB exposure was determined to monitor edema and erythema, respectively. All three test creams exhibited anti-inflammatory effects in both experiments. The creams containing Sasa quelpaertensis, Althaea rosea or Dryopteris crassirhizoma extract alleviated the UVB-induced edema response on day 4 by 53.8 %, 56.4 % and 31.1 %, respectively. They also inhibited the erythema formation on day 2 by 45.7 %, 34.1 % and 20.5 %, respectively. This study sug gests that the selected plant extracts formulated in cosmetics may attenuate skin inflammation caused by overexposure to UV.

Abstract
In this study, we investigated anti-oxidative effects of Duchesnea indica extracts by using Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC). The extracts were prepared with 0 %, 30 %, 50 %, 70 % and 100 % aqueous ethanol respectively. The 30 % EtOH D. indica extract showed higher ORAC activity than the other extracts. Therefore, we performed in vitro studies on cytotoxicity of NIH-3T3 cells and MMP-8 collagenase inhibition using by the 30 % EtOH extract. The 30 % EtOH extract showed no cytotoxicity and significant inhibition on MMP-8 collagenase. And we performed clinical studies for the anti-wrinkle effect of the Di-Wrinkle Free Cream. The cream formula was prepared with 2 % arbutin and 1 % D. indica extract. Twenty one healthy women volunteers, ages of 35 and 50, applied the cream on their faces twice a day for 8 weeks. The skin was evaluated with PRIMOS (phaseshift rapid in vivo measuring of human skin) system and analyzed by the student's paired t-test. The wrinkles on the eye region were reduced by 13 % based on the PRIMOS system after 8 weeks. In the safety study of the Di-Wrinkle Free Cream, no symptoms were observed such as erythema, edema, scaling, itching, stinging, burning, tightness and prickling by visual observation and medical examination of volunteers for 8 weeks. Moreover, there was no noticeable skin disorder during experience period. These results suggested that D. indica extracts could be applied as cosmeceuticals effective for anti-wrinkle.

Abstract
In this study, we developed a scalp protect powder (scalp irritation abirritant). We proved this powder can lessen sensitivity of skin against diamine dyes (PPD, PTD, etc.) by carrying out safety test and clinical experiments. This scalp protect powder accelerates dyeing process, and reduces not only scalp irritation but also hair damage. Using our optimum formula, ammonia can be caught in liquid-crystalline structure, subsequently, bad odor is reduced dramatically.

Abstract
To develop wrinkle care cosmetic ingredients, various species of plant extracts were investigated. Accordingly, Ligustrum japonicum was selected as a candidate for developing cosmetic ingredient. By high performance liquid chromatography, 31.06 % of oleanolic acid and 8.92 % of ursolic acid which are well-known for anti-wrinkle effect were analyzed. The possibility of Ligustrum japonicum fruits extract (LJE) as a cosmetic ingredient was investigated using several biomarkers related to anti-aging, including anti-wrinkle, moisturizing and anti-inflammation. Procollagen type I and hyaluronan synthase-3 gene expression were increased by LJE in a concentration- dependent manner, whereas elastase activity and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1 , MMP-2 and cyclooxygenase- 2 gene expression were inhibited. As the results LJE is applicable for a potential cosmetic ingredient focused on anti-aging effect.

Abstract
In this study, the antibacterial, antioxidative effect and component analysis of Pinus koraiensis leaf extracts were investigated. MIC values of the ethyl acetate fraction from P. koraiensis leaf extracts on P. acnes, S. aureus, P. ovale, and E. coli were 0.06 %, 0.25 %, 0.13 % and 0.50 %, respectively. The results showed that the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction on P. acnes, P. ovale. and S. aureus was more prominent. The aglycone fraction of P. koraiensis leaf extracts (22.93 μg/mL) showed more higher free radical (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, DPPH) scavenging activity (FSC50). Reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging activity (OSC50) of P. koraiensis leaf extracts on ROS generated in Fe3+-EDTA/H2O2 system was investigated using the luminol-dependent chemiluminescence assay. The 50 % ethanol extract (0.70 μg/mL) showed the most prominent ROS scavenging activity. Also the ethyl acetate (1.04 μg/mL) and the aglycone fraction (1.43 μg/mL) showed very high antoxidant activity. The protective effects of extract/fractions of P. koraiensis leaf extracts on the rose-bengal sensitized photohemolysis of human erythrocytes were investigated. The P. koraiensis leaf extracts showed cellular membrane protective effects in a concentration dependent manner (5 ~ 50 μg/mL). TLC and HPLC chromatogram of the ethyl acetate fraction obtained from hydrolysis of P. koraiensis leaf extracts revealed 2 main bands (PK-4, PK-6) and peaks (peak 1, peak 2), which were identified as kaempferol-3-O-glucoside (PK-6, peak 1) and kaempferol-3-O-arabinoside (PK-4, peak 2) by LC/ESI-MS/MS, respectively. These results indicate that extract/fractions of P. koraiensis can function as antioxidants in biological systems, particularly skin exposed to UV radiation by scavenging ROS, and protect cellular membrane against ROS. Extract/fractions of P. koraiensis can be applicable to new cosmeceuticals for antioxidant, antiaging, and antibacterial activity.

Abstract
In this study, we investigated the antibacterial activity and the skin moisturizing effect of cream contaning Cedrela sinensis A. Juss shoots extracts. MIC values of ethyl acetate fraction from Cedrela sinensis A. Juss shoots extracts on P. acnes and S. aureus were 0.13 %, 0.03% respectively and P. ovale and E. coli were 0.25 % equally. The results showed that the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction on P. acnes and S. aureus were higher than the methyl paraben. The cream containing the ethyl acetate fraction from Cedrela sinensis A. Juss shoots extracts was formulated and its skin moisturizing effect was evaluated in a clinical trial. The skin hydration and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were investigated after topical application of the cream. The skin hydrating effect of the cream containing Cedrela sinensis A. Juss shoots extract was 10 ∼ 15 % higher than the placebo cream, and transepidermal water loss was decreased to 6.7 g/m2h in the subjects applied with cream containing the ethyl acetate fraction of Cedrela sinensis A. Juss shoots extracts. These results indicate that ethyl acetate fraction from Cedrela sinensis A. Juss shoots extracts could be applicable to new functional antibacterial cosmetics.
