Abstract
A solid state emulsion haying high velocity gradient shows two important transition ranges in the plot of storage modulus(G') as a function of shear strain, when the state is changed from solid to liquid. However, a solid state emulsion having low velocity gradient shows only one apparent transition range when the change from solid to liquid state takes place. The result implies the importance of the surface properties in the solid state emulsion. The addition of water phase in the solid state emulsion reduces the modulus in the modulus in the surface transition range by increasing interfacial friction and weakening the matrix. The addition of pigments increases the modulus in the modulus in the surface transition range by reinforcing the matrix, when there is no wafer phase in the solid state emulsion. When the solid state emulsion has water phase, however, the addition of pigments decreases the modulus in the modulus in the surface transition range.

Abstract
Unstable cosmetic active ingredients could rapidly break down in chemical and photochemical process. Therefore, it has become a very important issue to encapsulate active ingredient for the stabilization. 7-Dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC), a precursor of vitamin D3, has been shown to increase levels of protein and mRNA for heat shock protein in normal human epidermal keratinocytes. However, topical dermal application of 7-DHC is restricted due to its poor solubility and chemical unstability. In this study, 7-DHC was incorporated into nano-emulsion (NE), solid lipid nano-particle (SLN), and chitosan coated solid lipid nano-particle (CASLN), respectively. In order to prepare NE and SLN dispersion, high-pressure homogenization at temperature above the melting point of lipid was used Hydrogenated lecithin and polysorbate 60 were used as stabilizer for NE and SLN. CASLN was prepared by high speed homogenizing after adding chitosan solution to the SLN dispersion and showed positively charged particle properties. Decomposition rate of 7-DHC in NE, SLN and CASLN was studied as a function of time at different temperature. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies were performed to characterize state of lipid modification. It appeared that CASLN is the most effective to stabilize 7-DHC and may be used for a useful topical dermal delivery system.

Abstract
As a part of searching tot the natural components which inhibit the skin aging and wrinkle formation, the 80% methanolie extracts of 121 species of traditional herbal medicines used to treat lung and skin disease were investigated for their in vitro anti-oxidative activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and superoxide radicals, and inhibitory activity against elastase. We selected 9 kinds of the traditional herbal medicines showing inhibitory activities of winkle formation. The effective concentrations of 9 candidates for anti-wrinke/skin firming activity was less than 0.1 mg/mL, and there is no toxicity to cell viability at these concentrations. Through analysis of human skin primary patch test data, the traditional herbal medicines represented non-irritant materials. We suggest that these 9 candidates with ability to help anti-wrinkle/skin firming may be useful for functional cosmetic materials.

The Study on the Whitening Effect of Ephedra sinica Extract 마황추출물의 미백효과에 관한 연구
In this study, we investigated the application of an extract from Ephedra sinica which has been composed of traditional Korean medicine as a whitening ingredient. The extract of Ephedra sinica which was obtained from the mixture of methanol and water (1:1) the inhibitory effect of tyrosinase. Then, Ephedra sinica was extracted by two different solvents. One was water and the other was methylene chloride. Only, the water extract of Ephedra sinica showed the inhibitory effort of tyrosinase; the anti-tyrosinase activity with 0.2% of the water extract was 60.6%. But the extract of Ephedra sinica in methylene chloride fraction showed little inhibitory effect on tyrosinase. The inhibitory effect of the concentrated water extract of Ephedra sinica was tested on L-DOPA auto-oxidation and melanin synthesis in B-16 melanoma. In L-DOPA auto-oxidation, 0.5% of the concentrated water extract showed 87% of inhibition of L-DOPA auto-oxidation and the 0.75% concentrated Ephedra sinica extract in wafer fraction inhibited 98.8% of that. In melanin synthesis of B-16 melanoma, the concentrated water effect of Ephedra sinica inhibited 70.2% or 79.9% of inhibitory effect on that at the concentration of 0.05% or 0.075%, respectively. For verifying the skin whitening effect of the concentrated water extract of Ephedra sinica in vivo, we performed the clinical test of that. The research showed the significant skin whitening effect of a cream containing 0.5% Ephedra sinica extract and the statistical analysis showed a significant difference (p<0.05) between sample (containing 0.5% Ephedra sinica extract) and placebo after 10 weeks.

Abstract
We investigated the effect on inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) in human dermal fibroblast (HDF) by production of exopolysaccharide (GF-glucan) from mycelial culture of Grifola frondosa HB0071. The photoprotective potential of GF-glucan was tested in HDF exposed to ultraviolet-A (UVA) light. It was revealed that GF-glucan had an inhibitory effect on MMP-1 expression in UVA-irradiated HDF without any significant cytotoxicity. The treatment of UVA-irradiated HDF with GF-glucan resulted in a dose-dependent degrease in the expression level of MMP-1 protein and mRNA (by maximum 54.4% at an 0.5% GF-glucan). These results suggest that GF-glucan obtained from mycelial culture of G. frondosa HB0071 may contribute to inhibitory action in photoaging by reducing the MMP-1 related matrix degradation system.

Abstract
The propensity to purchase babies' cosmetics is investigated and analysed for this research. The synopsis of this research paper is as follows. The first, the $68\%$ of all respondents do not how a manufacturer or brand name in the reality of variously emerging domestic and import cosmetics for babies. The second, in case of a child haying a fair, sensitive skin or atopy (atopic dermatitis), the respondents are careful in choosing babies cosmetics but in case of a child having a normal skin the older a child grows from a stage of a new-born, a baby and an infant to a primary-school child, the older its mother is, the more respondents use adults' cosmetics in common rather than use cosmetics only for babies. 7.6% of respondents do not use babies' cosmetirs at ail. Especially, in using bathing goods such as a shampoo or a body cleanser, they frequently use adults' cosmetics in common. The third, the qualify is taken into the utmost consideration in purchasing babies' cosmetics. The Quality of imports is trusted and preferred better than that of domestic goods. The cost of purchasing babies cosmetics is less than 10,000 Won. consumers recognize that the price or cosmetics is rather high. The last, the improvement or babies cosmetics is 'the safety of goods', answered by 56.5% of respondents. The respondents are generally not satisfied with babies' cosmetics. So, a baby's skin is threatened by a newly-built house syndrome, the increase of atopic dermatitis, etc., caused by an environmental pollutions, a change of diet and a change of residential life. Under these actual conditions, babies' cosmetics which can protect a delicate and sensitive skin of a baby should be developed immediately. Consumers should have a correct choice with precise recognition and information on a baby's skin and cosmetics and continually use the efficacious and excellent babies' cosmetics to prevent a baby from a skin irritation, and need to show a keen interest in a healthy skin of a baby.

Abstract
The reduced production of domestic cosmetics in 2003, compared to last 5 years shows the recession of cosmetics industry. Under this situation, there has been reorganization on the domestic cosmetic market that low-end cosmetic .products become a trend due to the fact that major cosmetic companies also focus on low-end market since the last half year of 2004. However, it does not seem to be a temporal fashion that the extremely low-end cosmetics had an impact wavelength on cosmetics market. It has important meaning for the brand product strategy. This research focused on analysis of market situation and strategy through investigation of requirement and satisfaction on extremely low-end cosmetics in order to keep and improve it, which stimulated depressed cosmetic market.

Abstract
Motherwort (Leonurus sibiricus L), a hemp nettle (Labiatae) plant, grows about 1.5~2 m high spontaneously to wildness in Korea, China, Japan, and other Asian place. Its medical applications includes women's uterine disease, urination, bloody stool, bloody urine, and hemorrhoids. It's also effective for high blood pressure, heart stimulation, and anti-cancer activity. We first prepared chlroform and methanol extracts of motherwort and then they were fractionated using water, 30% methanol, 60% methanol, and 100% methanol, respectively. Each fractionates is assayed for free radical scavenging activities against DPPH and anti-oxidant activity by TBARS assay measuring lipid peroxidation using LDL. The 30% and 60% methanol fractionates of methanol extracts showed strong anti-oxidant activity compared to vitamin C. They also had more Potent SOD activity using pyrogallol at 250 ppm than that of vitamin C. These results suggest that anti-oxidant activities of motherwort may be applicable to development of natural anti-oxidant cosmetics. Possibility of nature anti-oxidation ability cosmetics is seen possibility low official.

Abstract
In the present study, the Chuncheon buckwheat extracts prepared from its seed coats, seeds and stems were used to determine anti-oxidative effects, the content of rutin and phytic acid, and the protective role against cadmium at the cellular level. futhermore, it was evaluated whether the buckwheat, mainly known as a healthy food source, might be applicable to functional cosmetics. Up to 100 ㎍/mL of the extract was not toxic in HaCaT and B16F10 cell lines using MTT assay. The anti-oxidative capacity of superoxide radicals was shown in seed coats extracts > stem extracts=seed extracts. Although its content of rutin, known as one of effective anti-oxidants, mainly exists in the stem, any extract did not eliminate hydroxyl radicals. Phytic acid, known as a heavy metal-chelate agent, was highly concentrated in the stem. The Chuncheon buckwheat extract had 10% protective effect against the treatment of 50 μM cadmium at which 50% of HaCaT cells survived. Confocal laser scanning microscope revealed the intracellular generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by cadmium treatment. Finally, we identified that the stem extract had the most protective effect on the elimination of ROS.

Abstract
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) which is very rich in Polyphenols and tannins was recently reported its anti-oxidant activities and phytoestrogenic activities in vivo test and many clinical studies, but the effects of them on the skin have not been reported. The experiments were tarried out in vitro to determine anti-oxidant activities of pomegranate extracts on DPPH radical scavenging assay, NBT/Xanthine Oxidase-superoxide scavenging assay, silica-induced intracellular H₂O₂, hydroperoxide and superoxide generation assay in RAW 264.7 cells. It showed that the methanolic extract of dried pomegranate peels have the most significant anti-oxidant activities on free radical scavenging assay and inhibitory activities on silica-induced intracellular free radical generation in RAW 264.7 cells. The concentrated juice of pomegranate showed only DPPH radical scavenging activities and inhibited hyaluronidase activity. Moreover, pomegranate seed oil inhibited specially silica-induced intracellular hydroperoxide generation in RAW 264.7 cells. These results suggest that the methanolic extract of dried pomegranate peels and pomegranate seed oil have more anti-oxidant activity than concentrated juice of pomegranate. Thus the extracts of pomegranate peels and seed oil could be developed cosmetic ingredients for anti-aging.
