Abstract
Recently, in vitro stratum corneum(SC) model was a useful tool to evaluate the skin condition such as transepidermal water loss(TEWL), skin hydration and etc.. In this stduy to evaluate the alterations of SC with aging in hairless mouse, we measured TEWL using in vitro SC model, SC lipid, and outer comeocytes area. Although the total SC lipid was rich about 30% in 8 week old mouse compared with that of 82 week old mouse, the TEWL values were higher in the former(2.05±0.16g/m2/h) than that of the latter(0.97±0.13g/m2/h). The outer corneocytes area was 559±65μm2 in 8 week old mouse and 755±56/μm2 in 82 week old mouse. So the barrier function was reinforced with aging.
This result suggested that the reinforced barrier funtion is one of the defense systems against the outer enviornment and the decreased skin function with aging.

Abstract
Retinyl Palmitate, the skin normalzer, is useful to promote greater skin elasticity, to diminish lipid peroxidation and skin roughness following UV exposure, and promote a youthfull general skin appearance. We knew that the reduction of retinyl palmitate in W/O, W/S, O/W, MLV cream was caused by variable compound factors. Among the retinoids, we chose retinyl palmitate and studied the stability behavior of retinyl palmitate is liposomed. Furthermore, HPLC, CHROMA METERS, LASER SIGHT SCATTERING SYSTEM and FREEZE FRACTURE SCANNING ELECTROM MICROSCOPY was used to analyzing the stability and efficacy of UV and heat.

Abstract
To minimize the use of animals in toxicity testing, and to reduce the cost in vivo test, more rational test method was described which determines, in the same animal, photoxic and photoallergic potential of a substance, and is daptable to routine testing. The other purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of in vivo alternatives ; photostability and spectrophotometric carbonyl assay. In this modified photosensitization model, animal numbers and resting periods, the number and method of topical application were simplified. Two positive photoreactive agents, Benzocaine and 6-methyl coumarine, showed a similar photoallergic potential to that of Ichikawa's method.
Two sunscreens, Octyl methoxy cinnamate, Butyl methoxyl dibenzoyl methane, hardly showed photoallergic potentials. The photostability test could be used in the step of prescreening of photosensitization potential because most of the photoreactive agents represented the reduction of more than 20% in the absorbance. And photoreactive agents have a high potential of photosensitization in the sddessment of spectrophotometric carbonyl level although two sunscreens have a low possibility of photosensitization. Therefore this method was assumed as a valuable in vivo alternatives in the respect even in the very low concentrations which phototoxicity test using almonella showed no phototoxic potential.
